The match, played at Kidlington, started brightly for United as they enjoyed the majority of the possession, with the front pairing of Adam Williams and Jordan Davis causing the Watlington defence problems. Indeed, the best chance of the half fell to Williams on 17 minutes as he was put through with a clear run on goal - with his powerful effort from 15 yards pushed around the post by the Watlington keeper.

Watlington then started to get in to the game, looking particularly dangerous from set pieces. Their best chance came on 33 minutes when United keeper Dan Bowker was called upon to make an acrobatic, fingertip save from a powerful header off a Watlington corner.

The second half began in a similar vein to the first , with United on the front foot and Watlington generally happy to contain United and then seek to hit them on the break. The deadlock was, however, broken in the 55th minute when a corner from Jamie O'Connor was flicked on at the near post for Jake Rea to head home from 8 yards, giving the keeper no chance. United continued to press and they were nearly rewarded 10 minutes later when O'Connor met a cross field pass with a volleyed effort that beat the keeper and ricocheted back off the far post. The same post came to the rescue again for Watlington in the 73rd minute when, following a goal mouth scramble, the ball came back off the post to Jordan Goodge whose effort went just wide.

With only a few minutes remaining the inevitable happened and United started to defend deeper in their own half, allowing Watlington to press forward. Indeed, in the 89th minute Watlington had their best chance when a slip allowed the Watlington forward through on goal, with his volleyed effort going just wide.

That was the final action of the match as United held on for a deserved victory against their Oxfordshire Senior League opponents.
