Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League Wing Raiders vs Thame United Women

Martin Pacetti12 Dec 2023 - 07:28

Wing Raiders 1 - 1 Thame United

Thame travelled to Wing Raiders in the Thames Valley Football League Division 3.

The reverse fixture earlier in the season finished 1 - 1 with wing scoring in the first half and skipper Amy Cowen equalising in the second.

Both teams since then hadn’t conceded a goal. So was going to be a very tight match. Thame started the game strongly but failed to capitalise with their time on top. Wing grew into the game from the 20th minute and put Thame under a lot of pressure with three shots being cleared off the line by Shelley Morgan.

Even with the great defending from Thame, Wings number 7 put them ahead with a headed effort hitting the post and falling into the back of the net just before half time.

Thame went into the break a goal down and a lot to do in the second half.

Wing kicked off the second half where they left off controlling the game in the middle with a few half hearted efforts being picked out by goalkeeper Lillie Eames.

In the 69th minute Thame managed to hit wing on a counter attack and the chasing down from Anna Thompson forced the wing defender to hit the ball out for a corner. Talia Mead whipped the corner into the near post but was headed back out to her. She crossed the ball first time into the back post where striker Shona Reid-Evan’s was waiting to poke it home. Equalising the game in the 70th minute.

Thame looked to nick it right at the death when wings number one pulled off a number of saves to keep the game level.

A goal each and a point a piece and game which reflected the first meeting sees Thame second in the league with 15 points. 6 points behind league leaders Easington sports Ladies.
