Thame United Women vs Rotherfield Match Report

Thame United Women book their spot in the Oxfordshire County Cup Semi Final!

Thame United Women looked to book their spot in the Oxfordshire FA County Cup Semi Final for the second year running as they welcomed division 3 outfit Rotherfield United Women. This was the first meeting between the two sides since the reformation of Thame in 2019.

Thame United Women had already beaten division one side North Leigh Ladies in the competition where Rotherfield United received a bye in the first round.

Thame made one change to the starting eleven that beat Harwell and Hendred 3:1 the week before with Chloe Simmonds coming in for Amelia Newman.

Thame started the game as they have done all season on the front foot early on and forcing a number of saves from the Rotherfield keeper. However it only took 6 minute for Thame to break he deadlock though current top goal scorer Yasmin Williams, as Jo Taylors pass cut the Rotherfield defence in half for Yasmin to pick up the ball cut back inside and smash home from the left hand side.

After the goal Rotherfield started to settle into the game and it was very much end to end but it was Thame who found the net once again on the 21st minute as a diagonal through ball from Shona Reid-Evans was helped into the bottom corner by the Rotherfield defender.

Despite being 2:0 down Rotherfield kept up their fight and pushed to half the deficit and did just that after a corner was only cleared as far as the Rotherfield winger who’s curling cross was put into the Thames net by Gemma Tominey.

As the half drew to a close Thame once again found themselves on the front foot and extended their lead once more as Shona Reid-Evans headed home a Yasmin Williams corner.

Reid-Evans was in amongst the action once more midway through the second half as her pass across the box was tapped home by India Cox. Booking Thames place in the semi final.

Thame United Women will host Kidlington Youth Ladies in the semi finals on the 26th February.
