Thame United Women vs Harwell and Hendred Ladies Match Report

Martin Pacetti12 Jan - 20:02

Thame United Women 3 - 1 Harwell and Hendred Ladies

With majority of games being postponed and the weather affecting the meadow view pitches, Thame United Women travelled to the Bucks College Group to use their 3G all weather pitch in what was their home tie against Harwell and Hendred. In the Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division Two. Last time out it was a 7 goal thriller with the opposition pulling 3 goals back in the second half. Thame did however traveled home with all 3 points so the fixture this afternoon was always going to be exciting.

Thame gave a debut to Rebecca Wilson who was given her chance in the first team after impressing in training. Rebecca becomes the 3rd player in the last two seasons to come through the Thame pathway. The game got off to a frantic start, after a series of early corners to the home side, which came to nothing. It was Hendred who took the lead on 5 minutes when Judith Morgan was able to tap the ball into the net from two yards out as a low cross from Hendred number 7 was let through. It didn’t take Thame long to equalise when Shona Reid-Evans managed to take the ball around the Hendred keeper to level the game on 10 minutes.

Thame were forced into a change early on after India Cox went down injured with Emma Potts replacing her, and she had an instant impact as her cross from the right hand side was met by Daisy Wards who’s volley was parried only as far as Yasmin Williams who who was in the right place to pounce on the ball and give Thame the lead. It was Thame who ended the half the strongest, with the Hendreds number one being the busiest player on the pitch pulling off some cracking saves to keep the score down to take the game to half time with Thame a goal ahead.

Thame started the second half as they finished the first half with plenty of energy and high intensity and as the half continued they were starting to dominate the game and pushing Hendred back deep into their own half. With another series or corners it was India Cox who came closest when her effort rebounded off of the visitors post. Hendreds defender Maili Nugent showed her class today as she was making life difficult for the Thame forwards. But it was Thame who were creating the better chances, with a strong effort from Jo Taylor well saved by the Hendred keeper, and the same player then created the assist for Thames third, slotting a wonderful through ball for Yasmin Williams to run onto and as the keeper advanced slotted the ball past her and into the net for her second. In the dying moments Ash Rogers came off the bench to face her old club and saw her long range effort go just wide of the post.

And that was all the action with Thame coming out on top with a 3 - 1 victory and deserving the 3 points and another win, which lifts the side up to second place in the table one point behind the leaders Caversham with two games in hand.
