Thame United vs Aylesbury United Match Report 23 November

Martin Pacetti24 Nov - 17:22

Another win and another clean sheet for Thame United

Thame United were in Pitching In Southern League Central Division One action when they welcomed Aylesbury United to the ASM Stadium on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon, despite the challenging weather conditions this week, the pitch was looking in good shape a credit to the ground staff for all their hardwork.

Manager Ben Williams welcomed back captain Mark Riddick from suspension and there was a return to the starting line up for Tom McElroy, with Curtis Brown and Jack Tutton moving to the bench. Thame also welcomed two new signings to the match day squad, midfielder Hayden Beadle returned to the club and Aaron White a young centre back joined on load from Slough Town having previously been at Reading Academy.

Thame started the game kicking from right to left into a strong wind and driving rain, they were determined to put Tuesdays disappointing result behind them, and were straight onto the attack, pushing the visitors back. Within minutes the home side had taken the lead, a long ball found Brayden Daniel on the right he drove into the box and laid the ball off to Harry Alexander whose shot was blocked, as the ball bounced around it fell to Dan West just outside the box, his first time shot beat the keeper at the far post. 2 minutes later it was two, this time Thame won a corner on the left side, the ball was crossed in and headed away. Fin Murray retrieved the ball on the right edge of the box, his cross was headed out only to fall to Harry Alexander who hit the ball on the half volley into the far corner, 8 minutes gone and the home side were leading 2 - 0. After the initial shock of conceding two early goals Aylesbury fought their way back into the match and had a number of chances to pull a ball back, from a free kick Woods header hits the post, then Halaty hit the bar. Kassim forced a good save from keeper Crowther and Stallard hit the woodwork again with a shot off of the crossbar. At the other end Thame should have put the game to bed as clinical as they were in the first ten minutes they wasted several chances to increase their lead. The half ended with the visitors good value for their 2 - 0 lead.

The second half got under way with Thame kicking with the wind behind them and the rain which was getting heavier. They had an early chance with a Dan West free kick on the left, which was saved at the near post be the Aylesbury keeper. The home side were pushing the visitors back and there were relying on the counter attack and had a couple of chances but two shots were easily saved by keeper Crowther. At the other end there were chances for Greg Hacket, Harry Alexander, Ollie Hogg and Tom McElroy. Thame made their first substitute on 67 minutes when Jefferson Louis replaced Brayden Daniel who had caused the Aylesbury defence problems all afternoon, and within minutes of his introduction Thame had their third and what a goal it was. A long ball found Jefferson Louis midway into the Aylesbury half, he played a neat one to with Dan West and drove a spectacular thirty yard shot into the top right had corner of the goal, with the keeper having no chance, that effectively wrapped up the match. There was a triple substitution on 76 minutes with, Ollie Hogg, Tom McElroy and Harry Alexander being replaced by Curtis Brown, Jack Tutton and Aaron White making his debut. Hayden Beadle then made his first team debut replacing Dan West and within a minute of coming on and with his first touch scored Thames fourth. Greg Hackett who has was dangerous all afternoon on the left picked up the ball drove to the by line and crossed where Beadle was unmarked to wrong foot the keeper with his header back across goal and in off the post. Aylesbury had a couple of half chances as the game drew to an end but didn't trouble keeper Crowther. The game ended after four minutes off added time being played a comfortable win for Thame in some challenging weather conditions, and a good reaction after the midweek defeat.
