Thame United continued their pre season preparations with a game against Ardley at Meadow View Park last night. After mixed results in their previous matches Ardley arrived on the back of an impressive 4-0 away win at Kidlington, determined to try and repeat the performance. After a cagey start the Red Kites slowly gained the upper had and started to dominate play and were rewarded for the efforts towards the end of the half with Ezra Forde finishing off a fine team move. The second half continued in much the same way with Thame dominating play and creating several chances, despite several changes. Their reward for their attacking play came when the Ardley keeper took too long on the ball and centre forward Wiktor Makowski pounced to slot home and double the lead.
The visitors came close to pulling one back with a shot that came off the crossbar, but Thame saw out the game winning 2-0 and gained more valuable minutes together.
After the match we caught up with manager Ben Williams for his thoughts on the performance.
“Good workout for us last night, positive result and more importantly performance, we are by design quite young at the moment so it was crucial we start to compete physically and defend better as a team before we can play football and we showed that last night. It is a building block and something we need to keep doing and getting better at. There were some good individual performance giving us selection problems as the season gets closer. 1 more friendly before the real stuff starts.”
We move on to our last pre season game at the ASM stadium on Saturday against Slough Town under 23, kick off 3pm.
