Great character from the team to fight back from 2 - 0 down to claim 3 points

Thame United were in Pitching In Southern League Division One action as they travelled to Bedfordshire for the second time this season to take on Biggleswade FC, who ground share with Bedford Town. After Tuesday nights action Manager Ben Williams was without centre back Fin Murray who limped off injured. Also missing was Phil Croker who was recalled by Oxford City for their league game, with two centre backs missing Jefferson Louis was drafted into the back four, and Dan West came back into midfield for Ollie Hogg who dropped to the bench. There was also a place on the bench for Jack Tutton, who returned to the squad after suspension.

Thame got the game started kicking from right to left on this newly laid 3G surface and started the game strongly both wingers Greg Hacket and Curtis Brown causing the Biggleswade defence some problems, Harry Alexander had the first chance of the game, but his shot was wide, Hackett then had a free kick deflect behind for a corner, on 5 minutes from the resulted corner Jefferson Louis towers above everyone but his header is over the bar. For the first 10 minutes Thame were dominating play, but Biggleswade were showing signs that hey could be dangerous getting in behind the Thame defence.

Then like a on off button, it all changed the home side probed down the left flank with a ball over the top, catching Josh Stanks high up field, the Biggleswade striker ran in on goal in front Leo Galpin who brought the striker down, stone wall penalty, which was converted. Thame fought back, and had chances from Tom McElroy and Curtis Brown. But the balance of play was with the home side who were playing some nice football and creating chances, a combination of poor finishing and some good goal keeping from Matty Crowther kept the score at 1 - 0. Biggleswade then had another penalty shout as one of their forwards looked to be pulled back, the referee waved play on, and did the same at the other end, when Curtis Brown ran in the box and appeared to be brought down from behind. The half ended with the home side on top and playing the better football, the visitors not on their game.

Thame were out early for the start of the second, hoping to improve on their first half performance, however it wasn’t a great start, Biggleswade won a corner on 46 minutes, the ball was floated in and not cleared with the ball dropping to a Biggleswade player who turned and shot past keeper Crowther. 2 - 0 to the home side and the visitors were in all sorts of trouble. On 57 minutes Thame made their first substitute bringing on Ollie Hogg to replace Curtis Brown and there was a change of formation with Thame moving to a back three and Jefferson Louis going up front with Tom McElroy. The change paid dividends with Louis starting to hold the ball up and able to play in Hackett, McElroy and Alexander who were starting to look dangerous. And on 61 minutes they were back in it, somewhat fortunately but they all count. The ball broke to Dan West on the right hand side on the edge of the box, it looks like a cross into the box, but took a wicked deflection to loop the ball over the keeper and into the net, Westy will e credited with the goal, almost immediately at the other end the home side forced a good save from keeper Crowther. Braden Daniel replaced Tom McElroy on 70 minutes, with Thame almost playing with a front five, and were throwing everything at Biggleswade to get the equaliser. On 75 minutes the visitors had another penalty shout when Dan West went down under a challenge in the box, but nothing doing.

But within a minute Thame were level, with another freak goal, with a defender trying to clear the ball on the edge of the box, only for it to deflect off of the in running Daniel and the ball flying back over the keeper who was stranded and the ball found the back of the net, on the balance of the last 15 minutes nothing more than the visitors deserved. Thame continued to press and 3 minutes later were in front, Hackett picked up the ball on the left, drove into the box and delivered a great pass where the on running Daniel made a first time connection and the ball flew past the keeper. Moments later the impressive Daniel had another chance in on goal but his shot just hit the side netting, Jack Tutton replaced Harry Alexander as Thame looked to see out the remaining minutes and although the visitors piled on the pressure, could not get back into the game and after 5 minutes of added time the referee blew for full time. A remarkable turnaround after the visitors looked down and out at 2 - 0 down, but battled back and showed great character to fight back and come away with the three points.
